One Current, Eight Tools: Crossing Without Dissolving

A series usually loses its character at a crossing — stills to video, stills to swaps — because the receiving tool is handed a fresh description and pours its own version of her. The current at this desk runs the other way: the card crosses first, and the tool receives her exactly as written.

The rule is mechanical. Whatever the destination tool, the same five lines are pasted at the head of the brief, and the result is judged against the card before anything else about it is discussed. A clip whose performer fails the card is a cull at the crossing, not a keeper to be finished. A swap landing that drifts is returned, not repaired into a third version of her.

Crossings also keep their order, because the current is one-way: stills prove her, the editor repairs the stills, swaps carry the proven face, video moves the proven still, upscalers finish what every earlier stage has passed. Each stage drinks from the same bottle.

Eight tools are one current here, and a current only stays clean if nothing is poured into it halfway down.
